Bethesda Spotlights

You don’t have to leave home to enjoy endless attractions, entertainment, arts, culture, events, shopping, dining, and more! Just head to Downtown Bethesda, where you’ll find over 200 restaurants, two live theaters, dozens of art galleries, and outstanding shopping that ranges from boutique to big-box retailer. Plus, there are plenty of exciting events throughout the year, like the Fine Arts Festival, Taste of Bethesda, Outdoor Movies, or Bethesda’s Winter Wonderland. And you definitely don’t want to miss out on the premier retailers and amazing restaurants that await in Bethesda Row.

Parks, Golf & Recreation

Bethesda is big-city bustle with plenty of natural outdoor beauty! Charming pocket parks dot its downtown area and neighborhoods, while just outside, major parks like the Meadowbrook Local Park or the Norwood Recreation Center offer outstanding ways to get outside and get active. The Capital Crescent Trail, which follows the old B&O Railroad from Silver Spring to Georgetown in DC, winds through Downtown Bethesda. Golfing is also big in Bethesda, as it's home to many premier country clubs and golf courses, including the Congressional Country Club, one of the most prestigious in the world, Burning Tree Club, and Bethesda Country Club.

Important Industry & Federal Institutions

Though located directly outside of the Capital City, Bethesda is home to many of its own major industries and institutions. The campus of the National Institutes of Health, the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, and the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences are all found here, as are the Consumer Product Safety Commission, and several headquarters for major industries such as Lockheed Martin, Coventry Health Care, Marriott International, Host Hotels & Resorts, and other tech, financial, and research industries.

Getting to DC

Because it’s located on the border of DC, Bethesda offers an easy commute into the city. It is served by two stops of the Metro Red Line, one at the Bethesda Station in Downtown Bethesda, and the Medical Center Station near the NIH campus. Driving is also an option, with major thoroughfares such as Massachusetts Ave leading directly to the heart of Downtown, and Wisconsin Ave concluding in Georgetown. Bus options include the WMATA Metrobus, the Montgomery County Ride On bus, and the Bethesda Circulator, which offers a free loop bus through the Downtown area.
